The MV Bolivar is a brilliant, atmospheric wreck dive sitting right out on the Kish Bank. On her maiden voyage from Norway in March 1947, this 5,000-ton cargo vessel ran hard aground during a savage snowstorm. She split in two, and while her superstructure was later broken up using explosives to clear the shipping lanes, a massive, fascinating debris field remains on the seabed.
Sitting in just 10 to 12 metres of water on a clean, bright sandy bottom, the wreck is a massive oasis for marine life on the bank. You will weave through a maze of scattered steel beams, plates, and masts, with the towering engine machinery still standing high off the bottom. The site is absolutely teeming with life—expect massive shoals of pollack hovering over the wreckage, alongside plenty of lobsters and crabs hiding in the exposed ironwork.
Dive Specifications:
- Depth: 10m to 12m
- Suitability: Suitable for all qualified divers
- Conditions: Heavily exposed offshore site. This dive requires a settled sea with minimal easterly swell and must be timed precisely for slack water.
Please note: Because the wreckage is widely scattered across a flat sandy seabed, good navigation skills or a delayed SMB are highly recommended on this site.
